All profits from the 2027 Kaikōura Dark Sky Calendar sales will be used to support the Trust’s ongoing work to protect the Kaikōura International Dark Sky Sanctuary, particularly through practical initiatives to reduce light pollution across the district.
This includes working with local businesses, organisations and the wider community to improve outdoor lighting and encouraging simple changes such as better shielding, warmer-coloured lighting and the use of timers and motion sensors. These changes help reduce unnecessary light entering the night sky while still ensuring businesses, homes and public spaces have the lighting they need.
The calendar itself features night-sky photography captured at 12 iconic locations or local businesses throughout Kaikōura. Each month showcases a different location and recognises the businesses and organisations that helped make the project possible.
Thirteen local sponsors supported the production of the calendar: Destination Kaikōura, Fyffe House, Kaikōura District Council, Kaikōura Wilderness Experience, Kahutara PurePod, Hapuku Lodge, Moana Skies, Donegal House, Mangamaunu Retreat, SKYKOURA, Ata Rangi Lodge, JWPK Photography and ITM.
The calendars are $28 including GST and measure 462mm x 259mm, wire bound with a hanging loop.
With a limited number available, they make a great Christmas gift for locals, visitors and anyone who loves Kaikōura and its night skies.
