Discover constellations, planets, and deep sky wonders from within the Kaikōura International Dark Sky Sanctuary. Your adventure begins with a shuttle pickup, followed by a scenic 15-minute drive up to Moana Skies’s private stargazing location nestled in the foothills. An experienced astronomer will lead you on a captivating stargazing adventure using state-of-the-art astronomy telescopic equipment as well as a laser pointer for highlighting naked-eye objects and teaching star navigation. You’ll be kept cosy and warm with blankets and a hot drink.

Astrophotography Night Sky Experience
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the night sky across one or more locations around Kaikōura. Settle in together with chairs and blankets as your expert astrophotographer shares local celestial stories under the stars. Let your guide capture professional photos of your experience—or use your phone or camera and receive hands on guidance to create your own spectacular night sky images. Star Flight Zipline & Star Gazing Experience
Your journey begins at twilight crossing the Kahutara River into the International Sanctuary. Enjoy your first zip as dusk settles and by the time you reach the second zipline’s landing deck celestial darkness will have fully set in. Pause for a warming drink whilst your guide points out celestial marvels and take an astro selfie. You’ll then experience the thrill of riding three more ziplines in inky blackness under the Milky Way.

KAI PŌ – Luxury Stargrazing Dining Experience
Indulge in a truly unforgettable evening of dining under the stars. This exclusive experience features a top local chef preparing a gourmet feast using fresh, locally sourced ingredients cooked over an open fire—perfectly paired with premium local wines.

THE HIKE HUT
This rustic, private hut sits on a working hill country farm off the Inland Road, deep within the Kaikōura International Dark Sky Sanctuary. The scenic walk to the hut leads you through rolling farmland and into native mānuka and tussock country. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Seaward Kaikōura Ranges and the dramatic Tuku Tuku Iwi landscape.
